Windows, Doors & Siding in Field

Quality Contracting provides honest, hometown exterior renovation services to Field and the surrounding lake country. We’re a family-owned company founded in 1996 and led by Reg Piquette—celebrating 30 years of running his own business this January.

While our home base is in Verner, we’ve been servicing Field, the Temagami Road corridor, and Lake Temagami access properties for nearly three decades. The Highway 64 corridor runs right through our service area, and our crews have worked on hundreds of homes and camps throughout this region—from small window replacements to complete exterior transformations.

We don’t believe in the “big-box” approach where contractors disappear after the job is done. We provide a Local Quality Standard: 30 years of expertise, premium materials from partners like Hometech and Royal Building Products, and workmanship from a crew that’s been with Reg for over two decades.

The Warranty That Sticks: Even after the product warranty runs out, we’re still in your corner. That’s local accountability you won’t get from the out-of-towners.

Protecting Field Homes from Northern Ontario’s Elements

Field sits at the junction of Highway 64 and Temagami Road—gateway to some of Northern Ontario’s most remote and beautiful lake country. Properties here face weather extremes that test every exterior surface. Out-of-town contractors don’t understand what these homes endure. We’ve been working in this corridor for nearly 30 years, and we know exactly what it takes to protect your home.

Extreme Weather & Temperature Swings

Field experiences some of Northern Ontario’s most punishing weather—-40°C winters, heavy snow loads, and ice storms that can arrive with little warning. Summer brings +35°C heat and humidity. This constant expansion and contraction stresses window seals, warps door frames, and causes standard materials to fail prematurely. Improperly installed windows fog between panes. Doors stick and leak. Siding buckles and gaps.

Our Approach:

We install Hometech windows with argon gas fill—available in both double-pane and triple-pane configurations—specifically engineered for extreme temperature swings. Every window gets foam perimeter insulation around the entire frame—not just a few spots. Entry doors feature foam-core insulation and complete weatherstripping systems that seal out the cold.

Remote Property Challenges & Wildlife Pressure

Many Field properties—especially those along Temagami Road and lake access routes—sit on remote lots far from neighbours and services. When you’re 20 minutes from town, you need materials that survive without constant attention. Insects find every gap. Wildlife—from mice to bears—test every weak point. Standard installations leave entry points that become expensive problems.

Our Solution:

We build for durability and zero-maintenance performance. As a Royal Preferred Contractor, we install siding with complete flashing systems that block pest infiltration. We tape all seams and caulk every opening—no shortcuts that invite problems. Entry doors come with security hardware and reinforced strike plates for peace of mind when you’re not there.

Lake Country Camps & Seasonal Conversion

Field is gateway to countless camps and cottages along Temagami Road and Lake Temagami. Many owners are converting three-season properties to year-round use—but a camp built for summer weekends wasn’t designed for -40°C January nights. Single-pane windows, uninsulated doors, and aging siding simply can’t keep up. Heating costs become astronomical. Pipes freeze. Comfort disappears by November.

Our Solution:

We specialize in seasonal-to-year-round conversions. Hometech windows with argon fill handle extreme cold—whether you choose double-pane for strong performance or triple-pane for maximum protection. Insulated siding systems dramatically cut heat loss. Foam-core entry doors with proper threshold sealing keep winter out. And with financing up to $100,000, converting your camp into a year-round retreat may be more affordable than you think.

Double-Pane vs. Triple-Pane Windows: Which Is Right for Your Field Home?

Double-Pane Windows

Two panes with argon gas fillExcellent—significant upgrade from single-pane15-20% reduction in heating costsGood—handles most conditions wellGood noise reductionMost Hagar homes; excellent value and performanceBudget-friendly with strong ROILifetime Warranty

Triple-Pane Windows

Three panes (1 3/8") with argon gas fillSuperior—30% better insulation than double-pane20-25% reduction in heating costsExcellent—virtually eliminates condensationSuperior sound dampeningMaximum comfort; exposed locations; long-term investmentPremium investment with maximum performanceLifetime Warranty

The “Quality Standard” vs. The “Cheap Fix”

In the renovation industry, a “cheap” job is often the most expensive one you’ll ever buy—because it has to be done twice. This is especially true in Field, where extreme cold, wildlife pressure, and remote-property exposure punish shortcuts faster than anywhere.

The “Cheap” Way

Air-filled double-pane—seals fail faster under lake humidity and freeze-thawMinimal foam—gaps become pest highways on vacant propertiesNew siding over rotting wood—damage spreads unchecked while you’re awayNo flashing—wind-driven rain and insects find every gapBasic weatherstripping—fails after first lake-effect winterContractor from Toronto—good luck getting warranty service up here

The Quality Way

Argon-filled double or triple-pane—engineered for deep-lake exposure and extreme coldFoam perimeter insulation around ENTIRE frame—sealed against cold, moisture, and wildlifeCheck ALL walls for rot and wet insulation BEFORE installingFlashing at every penetration plus taped seams—sealed against Temagami’s exposureFoam perimeter + compression weatherstripping + proper threshold sealingThe Warranty That Sticks—we’ve been on Highway 11 for nearly 30 years

The Hometown Advantage: We’re at 89 Principal Street, Verner—just down Highway 64 from Field. Out-of-town contractors are happy to take your money but disappear when warranty work is needed on a remote property. We don’t. Highway 64 and Temagami Road are part of our regular route, and Field is part of our core service territory—not a side trip.
